About Fifth Avenue Psychology

Who are we?

Let’s be honest here. You don’t want to know who we are. You’ve been shopping around on probably dozens of different therapists’ pages and seen as many answers as possible – but they all sound the same. What you genuinely want to know is – what makes us different? Kaplan Psychology is not like other practices. We have an established record of helping New York professionals get relief, achieve their goals and find new fulfillment beyond anything they hoped or expected.

We know that one of the most frustrating things about therapy is feeling like your therapist doesn’t get you. Maybe it’s advice that sounds like empty platitudes or guidance you can’t use.

New York is a city like no other, and therapy that might work elsewhere often doesn’t work here. That’s how we’re different. That’s what we understand – that you need a therapist who understands this city and what it means for you to be making your life here.

Working less and meditating more may work for some people but not for most of our clients. We understand that it’s unhelpful to be told that you ‘need’ eight hours of sleep a night when you’re already killing yourself to get five or six. If you wanted a therapist who would tell you to move to a farm, sell everything, and sail around the world, you probably wouldn’t be looking for one in midtown Manhattan.

We know that everything in this city is measured.

Every second of every day is precious, and you cannot afford to waste a single moment on New Agey crap. When you walk through our door, we get right down to work. What do you want and need, and how do we make it happen? That’s our mission from the start.

If you are looking for relief, we will work together to determine how to get it. If you want fulfillment, we will work together to determine how to get it. If you want harmony in your relationships, we will work together to determine how to get it.

These are not empty words. Your goals and priorities form the road map for where therapy will go. Along the way, we will check in regularly to ensure we are progressing, and if we hit a roadblock, we will work around it or find a new path.

The point is that you should and will see results from therapy. And you will see tangible results. If depression is weighing you down, you will feel the burden begin to ease. If anxiety keeps you up at night, you will get a break from the tension. And if you are struggling with conflict in your relationships, you will see a reduction in that conflict.

We get it, and you are not alone.

Like many, if not most therapists, we’ve been the ones sitting on the couch. We’ve been frustrated by the feeling that therapy is going nowhere and marveled at how much progress we’ve made when therapy was working.

We have been where you are and have made it our mission to provide the help we know good therapy offers.

We’re human. We know the pain of depression, the anguish of anxiety, the trauma of broken relationships, lost jobs, and even having to say goodbye to the ones we love.

This is a big step, and we understand that. Looking for help is the first step. Please know that we will not disappoint you when you contact us.
